Introduction

Managing international social media channels is essential for companies and shapes their brand image. Using the example of REHAU, a global manufacturer of polymer-based solutions in the construction, automotive and industrial sectors, we show the challenges and solutions that need to be considered when implementing a social media strategy across countries and how we were able to support REHAU in this.

Learnings and conclusion:

Together and in close cooperation with our customer REHAU, we have developed a strategy to transfer the large number of loose channels into a new "shared infrastructure". By migrating to a central business manager, the channels can now be managed much more efficiently. The intensive communication with our contacts at REHAU and the individual support of our country colleagues contributed significantly to the success.

The following 4 lessons can be derived:

  1. A project of this size takes a long time to complete and is essentially never finished, but is an ongoing process for which capacity must continue to be factored in.
  2. It makes sense for large international companies to implement centralized management of their social media activities. Internal know-how can make the project more efficient.
  3. Consolidation strengthened contact with the respective countries and promoted the cultivation of relationships.
  4. It is advisable to record the steps and findings from the project in the form of a guideline, as the process is extremely complex and should be documented for future tasks.

"The consolidation of our numerous social media channels was an extensive and significant project. The effort invested was undoubtedly worth it, as it has made us much more agile and given us an improved overview of REHAU's global social media activities. We would not have been able to overcome this challenge without the support of Social DNA."
